Actress Daisy Edgar-Jones will star as the protagonist Elinor Dashwood in the film adaptation of Jane Austen's masterpiece <Sense and Sensibility>. This project is a collaboration between Focus Features and Working Title Films, who previously brought successful adaptations of Austen's works such as <Pride and Prejudice> (2005) and <Emma> (2020).

The film will be directed by BAFTA-nominated Georgia Oakley, with the screenplay written by Australian writer Diana Reid. Reid expressed her disbelief at adapting this novel through social media, stating, "I still can't believe I get to adapt this novel." The film is set to begin shooting in July, with additional casting and release dates yet to be announced.

<Sense and Sensibility> is Austen's first novel, published anonymously in 1811, depicting the story of two sisters, Elinor and Marianne Dashwood, who symbolize emotion and reason as they navigate love, loss, and financial crisis. The 1995 film directed by Ang Lee, starring Emma Thompson and Kate Winslet, received significant acclaim, earning seven Academy Award nominations, and has since been reimagined multiple times in dramas and films.

Daisy Edgar-Jones, who plays Elinor, rose to fame through the BBC drama <Normal People> and has consistently taken leading roles in literary adaptations, including <Where the Crawdads Sing> (2022). Edgar-Jones heightened fans' expectations by posting an image of an old edition of the book along with only an eye-shaped emoji on her Instagram. This remake is expected to shed new light on the modern interpretation of the classic, as well as the social insights and the power of female narratives in Austen's novels.
