"I focused on the realistic portrayal of what Superman would look like if he actually existed, what thoughts and feelings he would have, and what his relationships with his girlfriend and the government would be like."

Director James Gunn stated this during a video interview with domestic reporters on the 3rd, revealing the intention behind the production of the new movie <Superman>.

<Superman> is a new superhero film from DC Studios that tells the story of Superman (David Corenswet), known as the most powerful being on Earth, facing off against his arch-nemesis Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult).

Director James Gunn, who directed the movies <The Suicide Squad> and <Guardians of the Galaxy> series, presents this film as his first work after taking the helm of DC Studios. He is responsible for both directing and writing.

He explained the background of choosing <Superman> as DC Studios' first project by saying, "Superman is the origin of superheroes. I thought it was appropriate to start with an icon of (the superhero genre)."

Director Gunn mentioned that he was introduced to 'Superman' through comic books in his childhood and wanted to bring to life the world view of that time, which included Superman and his friends, giant monsters, kaiju, robots, and more.

The new Superman role will be played by David Corenswet, who appeared in <Twisters>, <Pearl>, and <We Own This City>.

Corenswet expressed his feelings when he received the offer for the Superman role from the director, saying, "Something unbelievable happened," and described it as "a dream come true." He likened it to the feeling of hearing that astronauts who trained hard finally got to go to the moon.

Regarding the pressure of following in the footsteps of famous actors like Henry Cavill, Tyler Hoechlin, Brandon Routh, Tom Welling, and Christopher Reeve, Corenswet showed a positive perspective. He stated that he sees it as "an exciting thing."

He said, "Playing a character that has been ingrained in the public's mind by great actors is a rare and fantastic opportunity for an actor. The various aspects of the character that actors, directors, and screenwriters have explored, along with their excellent performances, seem to alleviate the pressure."

He also added, "It is an honor to become a character that people of all ages will love, especially one that young people will enjoy, and to present the director's vision to a new audience."

Rachel Brosnahan plays Lois, Superman's colleague and love interest. Brosnahan, who plays the truth-seeking journalist Lois in the film, emphasized the importance of everyday heroes in the work. She mentioned that this film contains stories not only about Superman but also about ordinary heroes like journalists, firefighters, and paramedics.

Brosnahan stated, "There are many people, like firefighters and paramedics, who contribute to society on a daily basis, and I think seeing these many heroes play their roles in the movie will inspire others. In the process, action and adventure are woven in."

Director James Gunn explained, "Lois is someone who consistently pursues the truth. This in itself is a superhuman strength." He also emphasized, "I want young friends who watch the movie to say, 'I may not be able to be Superman, but I can do that.'"

Director Gunn also expressed his respect for the Korean film industry. He said, "Korea is really a country we love. There are many outstanding directors and people who have influenced me," revealing his excitement about presenting the work to Korean audiences.

The movie <Superman> is set to be released on the 9th.
