Actor Lee Jong-suk has chosen the new tvN weekend drama 〈Seocho-dong〉 as his comeback work after three years. Unlike typical courtroom dramas that fight against great evil, this piece focuses on the daily lives and livelihoods of lawyers. At the production presentation held at The Link Hotel in Guro-gu, Seoul on the 1st, Lee Jong-suk stated, "While typical courtroom dramas focus on life and death, our drama deals with the stories of living and making a living," and expressed his decision to participate due to its comfortable, everyday atmosphere.
〈Seocho-dong〉 realistically depicts the ordinary work lives of five 'associate lawyers' belonging to various law firms in the legal town. Lee Jong-suk plays the role of Ahn Joo-hyung, a 9-year veteran lawyer, while Moon Ga-young portrays the role of Kang Hee-ji, a first-year rookie lawyer. Kang Yoo-seok, Ryu Hye-young, and Lim Sung-jae also appear as Jo Chang-won, Bae Moon-jeong, and Ha Sang-ki, respectively, frequently gathering with the main characters during lunch breaks to chat.
In particular, food is highlighted as another main character in the drama. The trailer features the five lawyers enjoying a variety of foods from Korean, Chinese, Japanese, Western cuisines, and desserts. Director Park Seung-woo explained, "Whether sad, happy, or angry, one must eat," and added, "I wanted to express that they are continuing to live through the food scenes."
Another feature of 〈Seocho-dong〉 is that the script is written by Lee Seung-hyun, who is a practicing lawyer. Ryu Hye-young mentioned, "I was able to ask the writer a lot about the actual courtroom atmosphere and the tone for each case, allowing me to reference detailed aspects." Moon Ga-young also added that she asked the writer questions and received feedback for realistic acting.
At the production presentation, the cheerful atmosphere and strong teamwork among the five actors stood out. Lee Jong-suk praised Moon Ga-young, who is a former child actor, saying, "You are the most senior among us," and added, "I have learned a lot about acting from your 20 years of experience." Kang Yoo-seok joked, "I will aim for the number one credit on the cast list," to which Lee Jong-suk replied with a smile, "I will gladly concede that."
〈Seocho-dong〉 will premiere on the 5th at 9:20 PM.
